A co-founder of the Health Security for New Mexicans Campaign, Mary was its prime champion. She wrote, spoke, testified and helped to shape the conversation about health care improvements all over the state of New Mexico. She tirelessly organized with local communities, built coalitions and advocated at New Mexico’s Roundhouse for over 30 years.
Mary devoted her life to expanding access to healthcare, and environmental justice and greatly contributed to the ongoing national conversation that health care should be universally accessible, affordable and guaranteed for all.
A memorial celebration was held in her honor on May 16, 2026 in Corrales, NM where she lived. Friends from around the world filled the San Ysidro Chapel to share their memories of this extraordinary woman.
The Health Security for New Mexicans Campaign remains determined to continue the important work that Mary started.
